Artist Statement The paintings are concerned with spaces experienced. the transforming impact on those spaces of things, and light, which change constantly, so that nothing is certain. Everything seen and considered contributes.

It is trying to establish what it is that is seen, and the translation of that experience into paint that is the driving force. The marks come from the experiences and intensities of life, and have references beyond appearance. Shape and colour
are the starting point.

The reference is usually directly from the experience. The spaces are often the studio,
and the things in it, and the landscape beyond,
and people moving about, and the way they interact.
